About the Role – Software Engineer II
As a Software Engineer II, you’ll work on Azure SQL Core, the backbone of Microsoft’s database systems.
Your contributions will directly improve:
- Performance and scalability of our systems
- Reliability and cost efficiency for cloud customers
- Customer experience, through smart monitoring and diagnostics
You’ll also have the opportunity to prototype new ideas, collaborate with top engineers, and make decisions backed by real data and user feedback.
Responsibilities You’ll Own
- Lead prototype projects to test new design concepts
- Improve system performance, scalability, and reliability
- Build tools to enhance customer diagnostics and monitoring
- Use telemetry and data-driven insights to make smarter decisions
- Work in a team that values innovation, learning, and collaboration
Qualifications
Required:
- 3+ years of experience in building production-quality software
- Strong coding skills in C++ and/or C#
- Good understanding of SQL
- Ability to design, implement, and communicate solutions effectively
Preferred:
- Knowledge of database systems or operating systems
- Understanding of hardware architecture (CPU, memory, storage, networking)
- Experience with cloud technologies
- Strong problem-solving and interpersonal skills
